Presbyterian College, or PC for short, is a private liberal arts college in Clinton, which is a city in Laurens County, in the US state of South Carolina, with a population estimated at a number of little over 8000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census. Clinton is part of the Greenville–Mauldin–Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area and it is mostly known for the fact that it is home of the Presbyterian College.
The college was founded in 1880, by William Plumer Jacobs, who also founded the nearby Thornwell Home and School for Boys and Girls. Since then, PC has constantly grown, having today an enrollment of approximately 1300 students and offering 30 majors, including pre-professional programs, in areas such as Dental, Law, Medical, Veterinary Medicine and -Physical Therapy.
PC's athletic teams are known as the the PC Blue Hose, who compete in NCAA Division I, in the Big South Conference, in 16 varsity sports, for both men and women, including in baseball, basketball, football, golf, cross-country, softball, tennis and volleyball. One of the most popular athletic traditions on campus is the Bronze Derby football game, which is played annually against nearby Newberry College, the game being the subject of a long-standing rivalry between the two schools.
